Starting Over - A Day in the Corral with Joe Wolter
Joe Wolter

Spend a day with one of America's most renowned horsemen, as he restarts two green horses that have not been ridden in over two years. Working from the ground and progressing to the saddle, Joe demonstrates techniques that can be used to assess where a horse is at and how to proceed with its training.

Whether it’s a horse’s very first ride, or the first ride after a long layoff, Joe’s thoughtful, patient approach provides valuable insights for building (or rebuilding) a strong foundation on which to advance.

Joe is known for his deep understanding of livestock and his thoughtful, good-natured way with animals and people. His techniques are based on practical ranch experience and lessons learned from some of the world’s most renowned horsemen.

Early in his career Joe worked for Ray Hunt, cowboying in Nevada and starting colts with him throughout the West. Later he took a job on a ranch in Salinas, California, where he became acquainted with Bill Dorrance and began conducting some of the first ranch roping clinics.

Today Joe conducts clinics, trains horses for the public and competes in Cutting, Versatility Ranch Horse and Ranch Roping events. He and his wife Jimmie operate horse training and cattle conditioning facilities in Aspermont, Texas and Ballantine, Montana where they offer ranch clinics and private coaching.
